Whatever happened to the green-house effect? Are people still running with that idea, i guess not, there isn’t enough green houses to stop the air pollution from factories. It seem like the main focus in this article would be insects, since these sprays targets the “bad” insects but all the insects are killed. The United States Office of Plant Introduction alone has introduced almost 200,000 species and varities of plants from all over the world. I believe the Global enivorment will continue to decline and soon the air will be fully polluted with no where to go. There is still very limited awareness of the nature of the threat; People are fed the half truth when hearing about insects. The public must decide on whether or not they wish to continue down the same road of pollution. Who knows what will happen in 50 years?

When I think about terrorism, i really don’t think about it, they are random acts that people have no control over it. While reading the article they made a good point on how people fear things they have no control over. Like I don’t like when my friends drive fast but when im doing it, its ok. In the atricle they mentioned that young men are robbed the most but are the less likely to fear it. Like people are more likely to fear a plane crash rather than being in car accident.

Another example would be Philadelphia, which is where I live, alot of people are afraid of the homicides that aren’t really the targets. It effects me but it’s nothing i think about everyday, and it’s also about what kind of life you are living. I think terrorism is overrated in the United States, because we see it so much in Iraq, we think it’s going to happen that frequent in America.

In Africa Women are more vulenrable than men; young women are 4 to 5 times more more vulenarble than young men. When the AIDS/HIV epidemic hit California as the “gay plague” nobody realized that the disease was already well established in Africa. There is a constant view in Africa as unimportant and has been neglected. This fight against AIDS in Africa has been dominated by Western prejudices against African sexuality and cultural practices. For example, in the early 1980s when the speculation about Haiti starting AIDS everyone quickly went Anti-Haiti. I believe the only way AIDS/HIV can be stopped is if it is a cure, i don’t think by people giving out condoms and other things will be that much helpful. Hopefully a cure is coming soon!!!! 

 Bonolo from Botswana which is located in the South of Africa and has about 1.9 Million people. Botswana is also one of the richest countries in Africa and gained its independence September 1966. The official language is Setswanna and English. they were also one of the first countries to produce Diamonds. Bonolo attended the University of Botswana, and believes that people of America are more to their selves. People of Botswana are more friendly and greeting is always necessary and if it isn’t done it is looked at as rude.

The way she presented was very open, and i didnt feel offended or anything. Its interesting that the media diplays the middle east as all terrorist and destroyed property. When she showed me pics of her family and how everyone don’t always wear that religious scarf. I enjoyed her presentation, and it wasn’t really what i expected. I thought it would be someome that was very bias towards America.

Barracka Obama plans on helping more than just the middle class families, he will also help lower class families by creating more jobs and giving crime offenders more chances with job opportunities. Obama plans on creating twenty promise neighborhoods that will be modeled after Harlem’s Children Zone which is a full network of services. This program helps kids from early childhood to college. He also will invest in rural small businesses and fight to expand high-speed Internet access. He will improve rural schools and attract more doctors to rural areas.

 While reading Granitsas Americans Are Tuning Out the World i noticed that it was very short and writing a page on it would be kind of difficult. After reading Americans Are Tuning Out the World I feel like I can totally agree with it, because everyone wants to be like an American and everyone wants to come here. For What? Remember before 9/11, the Asian tsunami, SARS, the bird flu, people didn’t really take that much interest towards America. Now today people will do anything just to get a job or even visit America. Whether it’s working at a seven eleven or maybe even being an illegal immigrant. People travel even less more to other countries and students taking foreign languages are down in percentages. Since 1960s more than 20 million immigrants have come to America, that’s more than Ellis Island and Plymouth Rock Pilgrims. I believe that everyone is immigrants in America and soon it will just be a place full of more immigrants. Immigrants are helping the economy, just like earlier in class when you said in that movie, when all the Mexicans left and they accounted for a lot of work.

America will just continue to grow with immigrants and there is nothing we can do about, they are needed to bring something new to the US form a different perspective. I think the government will soon try to slow down the process of them coming to America. I wonder why Immgrants dont go to England like they come to America, to me England is just like the US but its just smaller. Immigrants come over here because its huge and they get to choose where they want to love. They can either choose the South if they like hot weather or the northeast if they are use to cold weather. America is a home to all immigrants across the world.

America is the “shining city on the hill” and the rest of the world really has nothing to offer. The Us is getting less engaged with the rest of the world, and we are becoming more of “isolationist”. The news covering for foreign news fell in half and dropped to about 21 percent.

The thought of a company using schools for advertisement angers me, they target schools that are lacking grade wise and are less funded. Since these schools don’t have a way of getting new books or computers, Channel One is looked at as savior to all of their problems. People that are in charge of these schools look at it like how much damage could fifteen minutes of advertisement do to students. A commercial being displayed in class is something I never experienced and I didn’t hear about until reading it in the book. This issue is something that hasn’t been brought to main news so people must not think that it is big problem.

So I decided to ask a few students that have experienced these type of advertisements in class on if it affects them or not. Most of the students said that these commercials didn’t affect their learning and they sometimes ignore it and work on assignments from other classes. Some of these students said that the things they receive like computers aren’t always the best, sometimes they are old and used. I believe if I was in a school that had Channel One programming, I would have the same outlook as the students believing that it isn’t affect me without knowing that it is.

Most people might think that Channel One isn’t hurting these schools but instead might think they are helping them. I believe it determines your situation, and how you view Channel One. For example the some people believe that it is best for schools, on the other hand somebody might think Channel One is bribery towards lower achieving schools. Since they are receiving computers and other things, people could be blinded by the fact that students are losing more time in class. People of today are so abused with advertisement that they aren’t aware of it and I am living proof of it. So why do students need to continue being advertised to in a place where they seem to be safe from it. Since watching No Logo and seeing that companies are considering the moon for advertisement, who knows where the line will be drawn with advertisement in school.

. Letting these companies takeover your school makes your school become part of a market, and now companies are now free to advertise when your students should be getting more time to focus on work. Maybe Channel One would be better if students chose to sign up for it, and then if they went through with it, at the end of the semester they could win an Ipod or laptop or something. They cannot target schools of an upper class because they don’t need them; they already have nice computers and anything they need.

What happens when these companies that produce these companies decide that schools need to add more minutes of commercials in order for them to continue with these items? Will Channel One be exposed then? This is something I believe that these companies are now looking at as a plan for the future. Since nobody has yet brought this to the light then why not go for it. Advertisement in schools will continue to be taken to new levels as long as schools are in need for funding and electronics or other things.

Once schools lose their identity as a place to learn and gain ideas, Channel One will have already reached their destination to have ultimate advertisement in a place that will always have a regular flow of people. There might even be a class required to take in these schools that just involves advertisements. This idea is something that I also believe that is being thought of by these companies that produce Channel One. As soon as these schools are destroyed by advertisement and are passed around by different companies as opportunities for them to advertise then maybe it can be brought to the light.

Suppose schools that are of a higher standard start to slip a little bit and lose some of their funding. Then these commercials suddenly start to appear in classrooms and grades start to decline and attendance. I wonder will the problem of advertisement be brought to news of everyone because this certainly something that I have never heard of before. Barber believes that Channel One is a mischief that hasn’t yet come to the light and he gave examples on this could be considered state propaganda.

One of his examples was what if someone had to watch the message of Christ for a couple minutes for free equipment. He also stated that people have run away from the idea that John Adams tried to instill which is a common school. Students “learn” to believe that mostly everything in school is true. What happens when these companies decide to take advertisement towards elementary and middle schools? The children will be stuck with whatever advertisement schemes they have to view. Maybe Red Bull could have a commercial stating how drinking it could give you wings. Now this student will want to drink it so that they could try to accomplish this.

Commercials in schools have to be stopped somewhere and the line has to be drawn at some point. What happens when these schools decide not to take computers and other things and start to want money in return for advertising, this will cause schools to be a common marketplace for companies like Channel One and other companies to advertise however they want to. Schools will lose its identity as a place to learn and will gain an identity as a place to market new ideas. Then advertisement companies might want more time of advertisement, instead of fifteen minutes they will probably increase it to thirty minutes. Maybe Channel One might get incorporated into a required class. I believe channel one needs to be stopped before it is too late and schools are ruined.

Channel One like any other company, for example cigarettes can’t be stopped once huge amounts of money are being gained and people constantly need it. There is only one way commercials can be stopped, and in order for this to happen something highly incapable is required. These schools that are lacking funding and grades are low, need to improve so that they don’t need to be given those electronics. Once these schools do that then the companies won’t be able to offer them anything. Channel One will then run out of ways to advertise causing them to take there business elsewhere.

Being advertised to in class is something I never really experienced but this something that could have an effect on me. What if these commercials make their way to mainly every school in America? My children have to go to these schools and I want them to be able to get as much time in the classroom as they need. Let’s say if these companies do decide to target elementary and middle schools. Then that means my child will be constantly advertised to now only at home on television but also in school for most of their lives.

This also means that when my children are advertised to that they will be lied to by these companies, what if a cigarette commercial is being displayed on the television and because they gave the school money or computers it is required for them to watch it. I most certainly think that these schools will start to get money from all types of companies whether it is Pepsi, tobacco, or even clothing to be able to advertise to their students. Money is something that no one can turn down and if a school is willing to take old computers who know what amount of money they will take.  When money is received from these schools John Adams idea of a common school will definitely become extinct. Channel One will be able to have more say so in how they want their advertisement and how long they want it.

In conclusion, you have now witnessed the good and bad effects of Channel One; this company has made a smart business move. I think Channel One will affect my community soon because of the schools lacking in grades. This will affect me because I am my community and those who are in my community represent me. I think Channel One should be stopped and the government should be held responsible in doing so. Better teachers should be sent to these schools and better security measures need to be taken so that these teachers can feel safe while teaching. Hopefully Channel One won’t takeover the world.
